New Police Commissioner in Gangster’s Paradise | The Budapest Report: "corrupt police service of South Africa’s most crime infested Gauteng Province (also dubbed Gangster’s Paradise) has received a new police commissioner, who vows to be more stringent with even the smallest crimes.
Police Commissioner Mzwandile Petros said at an anti-crime summit (packed with delegates from community policing forums, NGOs and members of public) that under his command the South African Police Service (SAPS) will have to go back to the basics. He promised an increased police presence, but did not say how the cash strapped service would be compensated for overtime.
He also called for residents to play a more active role in helping police to crack down on criminals. Statistics claim that at least 50% of all crime in South Africa occurs in Gangster’s Paradise."
